FAQ SECTION

How do I taste wines? Wine tasting is different from tasting foods or other beverages. It appeals to all of the senses when one takes the time to experience it fully. Click here for tips on how to taste wines and make tasting notes.

5 Rings Chardonnay, named Chi for the Earth ElementWhat do the names mean?  The names of each California varietal came from the Japanese names of each chapter of Musashi's "Book of 5 Rings".  Four of the names translate to the Oriental basic elements of Earth (chi), Wind (kaze), Fire (hie) and Water (mizu).  The last (ku) refers to a state of enlightenment.

Why are your wines low in sulfites?  Lower sulfites means a smoother tasting wine.  Some people also have mild sulfite allergies, and our lower sulfite content makes them more palatable.  Sulfites are commonly used to sterilize bottles and preserve wine, so some sulfites must be used in the process.  However, we do not add extra sulfites for long term storage.5 Rings Shiraz, named Hie for the Fire Element

How long will my wine last in the bottle?  Your bottle will last two years from the time it was bottled.

5 Rings Pinot Grigio, named Kaze for the Wind ElementWhere do you make your wine? Our wines are made by hand, right here in Rocky River.  We make small batches in stainless steel tanks to control each aspect of the process for consistent flavors every time.

Where do you get your grapes?  We have relationships with suppliers who crush the grapes for us.  This reduces the amount of space we need, and it makes our batches more consistent.  We currently get juices from California and Chile.

Why isn't the varietal on your label?  Since our California wines are a proprietary blend of grapes tuned in for wine flavor, Federal Regulations require us to give the wines our own names.  Our Chilean wines, however, do bear the varietal names on the label.  Try them for yourself and discover exciting, smooth varietals.

5 Rings Berry Red, named Mize for the Water Element

Why do you use synthetic corks?  Natural cork is permeable and allows wine to take on characteristics (odor and flavor) of its environment; also bottles must be stored on their sides to prevent the cork from drying out.  Synthetic corks provide a better barrier between wine and the world outside for a consistent flavor and aroma, and the bottles can be stored in any position, making them more adaptable to your home storage needs.

Who are your customers?  This wine is meant to be enjoyed by people who enjoy a smooth, full flavored wine.  With a shorter shelf life, it is not meant to be stored for a long period of time or to be purchased for collections or investment.  If you really like wine, you'll enjoy the wines we offer.

How many people can be seated in your tasting room?  40 people is the maximum that can be seated at one time.  Call ahead if you have a group of 20 or more.

Are you adding any new wines?  Yes, we're working on a Chianti for those who love the Italian reds.  We're also developing an apple cider wine.  It's a dry wine that blends a Granny Smith tang with the flavor and crispness of the Gala apple - cinnamon clove spices accent the robust 18% alcohol to make it a perfect harvest, Fall or holiday wine.  The cider smells like a fresh apple pie baking at Mom's house!
